RevTrack · Database roadmap

Every agency on PostgreSQL 19 by May 2028.

RevTrack keeps its data in PostgreSQL. We keep every agency's database server on a version the PostgreSQL project still supports, and we move before support runs out, not after. This is the plan for the next move, published so agencies, their IT staff and their auditors can all see it.

The plan at a glance

Support windows come from the PostgreSQL project. The phases are RevTrack's.

  • PostgreSQL 16 support
  • PostgreSQL 19 support

What happens, and when

PhaseWhenWhat happens
PlanningJuly – December 2027 RevTrack is tested on PostgreSQL 19: every screen, import, report and built-in compliance check. The upgrade steps are written and rehearsed, and the RevTrack release that supports 19 goes out. Each agency's IT contact gets its upgrade window.
PilotJanuary 2028 The first production server is upgraded and checked with RevTrack's built-in database checks before any other agency's.
Agency upgradesFebruary – April 2028 Each agency is upgraded in its own window: a confirmed full backup first, then the upgrade, then the same checks the same day.
Completeby May 1, 2028 Every agency is on PostgreSQL 19, six months before PostgreSQL 16 support ends. PostgreSQL 16 is removed and its old data folder is securely deleted.

How we decide

Which version

RevTrack moves to the newest PostgreSQL version that has been out for at least a year when the upgrades begin. A new version gets its early fixes in its first year. Waiting that long gives agencies a settled release that still has the most support left. In early 2028, that version is 19.

When

We start planning an upgrade no later than a year before support ends, and finish it at least six months before. The margin is deliberate: if anything slips, there are still months in hand. This cycle starts earlier than the rule requires.

On the record

Moving before support ends is a commitment in the RevTrack License and Subscription Agreement (Section 7.4). The one-year and six-month schedule is in the database procedure each agency adopts for its IRS Safeguards review (control DB-01, unsupported system components).

For agencies: nothing to do yet. In late 2027 we'll contact your IT contact to set your upgrade window. RevTrack is unavailable only during the window itself, and your accounts, history and documents carry over unchanged.

Each agency's own dates are sent to that agency directly. They are not posted here.

This is a plan, and plans can change; if this one does, this page changes with it. PostgreSQL support dates come from the PostgreSQL project's versioning policy. Dates for PostgreSQL 19 are estimates until the project publishes them. Questions? Contact us.
